Stone Worktop Installation: Preparation & Handover
Prepare for stone worktop installation, confirm access and trade responsibilities, and check the finished job before handover.

Confirm the agreed installation date with your fabricator and check its preparation requirements. Cabinets and planned supports should be secure, level and ready. Tell the supplier about changes since templating before the stone is manufactured or delivered.
Agree the delivery route
Send information about parking, stairs, doorways and restricted access early. Large island pieces can need particular handling arrangements. The fitting team should confirm what is practical; discuss any extra equipment or access costs before accepting the quotation.
Leave room for the fitting team
Clear the route and working area so the team can handle and position the stone. Arrange other trades around the installation rather than in the same space. Keep children and pets away from the work area and let the installers complete their work before inspecting it together.
Who reconnects the sink and hob?
Worktop installation and plumbing or electrical connections are separate tasks unless the quotation expressly includes both. Confirm who fits the sink, tap and appliances, who reconnects them and when that work should happen. Ask the installer when sealants and adhesives allow the next trade to proceed.
Check the finished specification
Walk through the installation with the team. Compare the material, edge details, cut-outs, upstands and splashbacks with the approved specification. Review visible joins and finished edges together. Record questions or outstanding items while the team is present and keep a copy of the handover record.
Do not assume an immediate return to use
Ask when the worktop, sink and newly sealed joints can be used. Cure times depend on the products and installation details. Obtain the care guide, warranty information and a clear contact for aftercare. Keep your quotation, template approval and handover records together.
