Marble & Granite Worktop Quotes: What to Compare

Compare exact slabs, fabrication, layout, sealing, template and installation when pricing a natural-stone kitchen worktop.

Start with the same selected stone

Compare quotations using the same stone, finish, thickness and slab references where possible. If another supplier proposes a different slab, review it as a separate material option rather than assuming it will produce an identical kitchen.

Separate slab choice from the finished job

Ask how much stone is included and how the required worktop pieces will be made from it. Include islands, upstands, splashbacks and any waterfall pieces. A slab-only price does not tell you the complete cost of a templated and installed kitchen.

List the fabrication details

Record the edge profile, sink mounting, hob cut-out, tap holes and draining detail. State the finished overhangs and agreed support arrangements. Ask whether specialist edge work and any extra polishing are included in the total.

Confirm layout and installation responsibilities

Ask who plans the piece layout, templates the cabinets and fits the finished stone. Discuss delivery access and any extra handling arrangements. Confirm whether plumbing, electrical connections or support preparation are included or organised separately.

Ask for stone-specific care advice

Ask whether your selected stone needs sealing, who applies it and what maintenance is recommended. The Natural Stone Institute explains that sealing can improve resistance to moisture and spills in suitable natural stones, while requirements vary. Obtain advice for your exact slabs rather than a blanket resealing timetable.

Compare the final written specification

Check the total installed price, payment stages, agreed scope and proposed schedule alongside the selected slabs. Clarify exclusions before paying a deposit. Keep your slab references, layout approvals, care instructions and handover records together.

Send your plan and selected slab details.

Include the stone name, supplier reference, finish, thickness and any existing quote so we can compare the complete installed project.
